Q: How can I become a volunteer with the after school program?
A: You can either be a reading tutoring at our after school program on Tuesday or Thursdays or you can help lead a discipleship group for our junior high and high school kids. Each volunteer will go through a 2 hour training session and also be required to fill out a criminal record check. We ask that all of our volunteers come once a week in order to build a relationship with the kids.

Q: Do I have to have a lot of experience in order to volunteer as a reading tutor?
A: No. All of the materials you use will be at the center. The director will be there to coach you, provide you with materials, and train you as you go. If you have experience with children, that is helpful

Q: How can I help financially with Gateway for Kids?
A: The funds for Gateway for Kids are provided through Churches, individuals, and foundations and raised by the director. The yearly budget for the program is $67,470.00. This amount includes all of the program and staff expenses. You can give money towards the program or give a one time gift or monthly gift towards the director's salary. All gifts are tax deductible. Please make checks to South City Church and write Gateway for Kids in the memo line. Send money to South City Church, Attn: Molly Hammett, 4522 Tower Grove Pl, St.Louis, MO 63110.

Q: Other than financially, and volunteering my time, how can I help?
A: We send out a monthly newsletter that gives details about kids and the ministry. If you would like to sign up to receive the monthly letter you can call 314-276-8407 or email mollyb77@hotmail.com. You can also help by spreading the word to other people who may be interested in the ministry.

Q: How do the kids get to the program and what do they have to do to come?
A: Most of the kids have parents who do not drive or they are single parents and working so we depend on the volunteers to drive the kids to the program. Each volunteer who is willing to drive, will never be alone in the car with the child. This is also a great way for the driver to see the city and get to meet the kids' families.
Each child has to have their parent sign a permission slip in order to attend the program. The program and all the activities are free, the funding for them is provided by individuals, Churches, and foundations.

Q: Who oversees the ministry?
A: The ministry is a extension of South City Church. The pastor and session oversee the ministry and there is also a full-time director of the ministry.
